Understanding Culture in BIPA Education with Prof. Dr. Mikihiro Moriyama

On March 30, 2023, the UPI Postgraduate School hosted a public lecture on “Understanding Culture in BIPA (Indonesian Language for Non-Native Speakers) Education” which aimed to provide insights and perspectives on BIPA education in Japan. The guest speaker for the lecture was Prof. Dr. Mikihiro Moriyama, who provided illuminating information on the development of Indonesian language learning as well as various challenges facing BIPA education in Japan. Among the topics discussed were considerations for teaching materials, BIPA instructors, and cross-cultural aspects in language learning.

One important aspect of the lecture was the emphasis on addressing religious and belief-related issues in BIPA education. This is a crucial element, as it is essential for students to have an understanding of the cultural and religious backgrounds that influence language use in Indonesia.
